The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Mr. Gordon N. Peek, a United States Civilian, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I as Commissioner of Finished Products, War Industries Board. As a member of the Board Mr. Peek rendered, through his broad vision, distinguished capacity, and business ability, services of inestimable value in marshalling the industrial forces of the nation and mobilizing its economic resources–marked factors in assisting to make military success attainable. As Commissioner of Finished Products, it was largely through his untiring efforts and devotion to duty that the Supply Bureaus of the War Department were able to maintain a constant flow of munitions as well as supplies of a general character to the Army.
