The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Lieutenant Colonel (Transportation) Edward Orton, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I. Lieutenant Colonel Orton’s untiring energy and splendid judgment were displayed in the efficient organization of the Engineering Division of the Motor Transport corps in bringing about standardization of equipment and supplies and in efficiently directing the forces of the motor industry to the mutual advantage of the Army and the industry itself.
