The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Interpreter Julien Morel, Army of France, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 138th U.S. Infantry (Attached), 35th Division, A.E.F., near Cheppy, France, 18 September 1918. Attached as an interpreter to the 138th Infantry, Mr. Morel volunteered to go forward with the organization in an attack, and though himself wounded helped to carry a wounded officer from the battle field and then returning, led the tanks to Cheppy, making possible the entrance of the Infantry to that town.
