The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Service) Warren Edwin Eaton, United States Army Air Service, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 103d Aero Squadron, 3d Pursuit Group, U.S. Army Air Service, A.E.F., near Bantheville, France, 10 October 1918. With one other pilot, Lieutenant Eaton engaged an enemy formation of 11 planes (Fokker type), though another hostile formation was directly above them. After a severe combat Lieutenant Eaton destroyed one of the enemy planes and, with his companion, drove down another out of control.
