The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Lawrence Alvah Wygal (ASN: 453877), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 64th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 7th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Rembercourt, France, 1 November 1918. Private Wygal went forward to the aid of a wounded comrade, who was lying about 125 feet in front of the enemy’s firing line. Under direct fire of rifles, machine-guns, and artillery, he applied first aid and took the man back into our trenches to a place of safety.
