The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Earl Vessie Wright (ASN: 2185246), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 356th Infantry Regiment, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Pouilly, France, November 10 – 11, 1918. Accompanying Second Lieutenant Charles R. Hangar, Private Wright made three trips through heavy shell fire to locate three companies which had become lost in the dense fog during the crossing of the Meuse River, and guided them to the river crossing.
