The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Earl Wright (ASN: 1457535), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company I, 139th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Charpentry, France, September 27 – 28, 1918. After being wounded in the knee, Corporal Wright refused to be evacuated, but remained at his post for nearly 24 hours until his wounds became so serious that he was ordered to the dressing station. His example of bravery and fortitude was an inspiration to his comrades.
