The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Wagoner Robert LeRoy Worden (ASN: 934300), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 21st Ambulance Company, 4th Sanitary Train, 4th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Ville-Savoye, France, 7 August 1918. While driving an ambulance through the town Wagoner Worden heard cries for help. Voluntarily arid under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, he climbed a tower in which he found two officers and a corporal severely wounded. He rendered first aid and assisted in carrying the wounded men to a place of safety.
