By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Walter Williams (ASN: 1096367), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal Williams, although severely wounded in the knee on the morning of 15 July 1918, exemplified valorous conduct and great devotion to duty with the battery north of Le Donjon Farm, France. He remained at his post, firing his piece and directing his squad. His faithfulness to duty and courage inspired and encouraged the members of his squad.
