By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Frank C. Anton, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving as Chief of Section with Battery D, 18th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Anton, on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, when the battery was shelled as it was moving into position south of La Perle Farm, by undaunted courage, untiring effort, and total disregard of personal danger, remained at his post, and succeeded in placing his gun in firing position in spite of intense shell fire.
