By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Robert Ray (ASN: 1160358), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the Medical Detachment, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Ray was attacked to Battery B during the entire action on the Marne and in the Argonne, being at all times courageous and faithful when occasion required, exposing himself to heavy fire when going to the assistance of the wounded. On the Marne, 23 July 1918, he voluntarily went in search of one of his missing companions and on the way back to the battery found several infantrymen lying wounded and without cover on a road that was under heavy shell fire and rendered them first aid.
