    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Steve P. Killibarda, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery C, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Killibarda displayed exceptional heroism in the Marne Defensive, 15 July 1918. After his left arm had been rendered useless by a shell fragment, he continued at No. 3 of his gun squad despite heavy enemy fire. In order to perform his duty he had to hold shells between his legs and fuse them with his right hand. His work in the hardest fighting was always of the best quality.
