By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Don W. Imel (ASN: 1038286), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Imel served faithfully and courageously with his battery throughout the actions of the Marne, St. Mihiel and the Argonne. During the engagement on the Marne on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, he acted as telephone operator at a forward Observation Post and remained at his post without protection throughout the night and in the morning assisted in carrying two wounded infantrymen to a dressing station, at all times being exposed to violent shell fire.
