By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Marcus D. Ellis (ASN: 1038257), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Ellis served his battery faithfully and efficiently throughout the entire actions of the Marne, St. Mihiel, and the Argonne. During the engagement of the Marne when the battery had been without rations for two days and it was impossible to bring up supplies he voluntarily went to the rear, procured rations and acted as cook until more men and supplies could be brought up, this under severe shell fire.
