By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Dushan Samardich (ASN: 1038323), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private First Class Samardich served his battery courageously and efficiently throughout the action on the Marne, at St. Mihiel and in the Argonne. On 15 July 1918, he volunteered his services to carry ammunition by hand from a dump more than a mile distant, making two trips over road that was being heavily shelled. In the Argonne, although sick and badly gassed, he insisted on remaining on duty, as men were badly needed.
