By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Cook Ted J. Chamberlain (ASN: 1038239), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the engagement on the Marne on the morning of 15 July 1918, after his kitchen had been destroyed by shell fire, Cook Chamberlain voluntarily carried ammunition by hand more than a mile over a road that was so heavily shelled as to be impossible for vehicles, continuing his assistance until severely wounded, and at all times setting an example of courage and cheerfulness to his companions.
