By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Newman Kindrick, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery F, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Kindrick displayed exceptional heroism east of Chateau-Thierry, France, 15 July 1918. He remained in an exposed observation post and continued to send reports until the wires had all been cut by enemy fire. He then returned through heavy shelling to his battery, bearing valuable information. Throughout this battle he showed the greatest courage and coolness and the highest devotion to duty.
