    Headquarters, 3d Division, A.E.F., Citation Orders No. 22 (July 8, 1919)

By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Melvin Jones, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Supply Company, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Jones showed himself to be a non-commissioned officer of conspicuous ability, great courage, and determination; throughout the battles of the Marne, of St. Mihiel, of the Argonne and of the Meuse he rendered invaluable services to his organization. Charged with the maintenance of the wheeled transportation of the Supply Company, he succeeded in surmounting all difficulties and maintaining his wagons in working order; repeatedly wagons were wrecked by shell fire and repeatedly Sergeant Jones repairs his wrecked wagons under heavy bombardment; by his industry and initiative he earned the confidence and respect of his officers and sustained the morale of the men under his charge throughout the long and arduous campaigns.
