By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Raymond E. Duncan (ASN: 1038497), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery D, 10th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Argonne-Meuse engagement on 27 October 1918, Sergeant Duncan was wounded while locating the battery position with the goniometer, but finished his work in spite of the wound. When he was sent to the rear, he refused to go to the hospital and returned to the battery, continuing to perform his duties although unable to use his left arm. During the engagements of the Marne, St. Mihiel, Verdun-Argonne-Meuse he rendered invaluable services as observer and instrument man.
