The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) William F. Weine, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 125th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Cierges River, France, 31 July 1918. After being seriously wounded in the abdomen, Lieutenant Weine displayed remarkable fortitude in organizing his command for the continuation of the attack before consenting to his removal to the rear.
