By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Harry Schneider (ASN: 540010), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Headquarters Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, near Fossoy, France, Sergeant Schneider displayed the highest devotion to duty and the greatest personal heroism in carrying messages between widely separated dugouts of the Regimental Post of Command through concentrated high explosive and gas bombardment and maintained order and discipline among the runners and orderlies at the Regimental Post of Command.
