    By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Lieutenant (Infantry) Bomar, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 23 June 1918, near Le Charmel, France, at the risk of his life under heavy artillery and machine gun fire, Lieutenant Bomar took out a patrol for the purpose of locating the position of a number of machine guns which were holding up the advance. After several hours of hazardous work, he succeeded in locating the machine guns, returning with the information which was of great value in facilitating the attack.
