The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Frank B. Ward (ASN: 2805234), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 357th Infantry Regiment, 90th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Meuse River, France, 6 November 1918. When the patrol of which he was a member had sustained severe casualties, he took command, extricated the patrol from ambush, and exposing himself to intense enemy fire, made three trips back and forward to recover the dead and wounded.
