The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Herbert E. Walsh (ASN: 1208032), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company H, 106th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, September 27 – 29, 1918. On September 27 Sergeant Walsh assumed command of his company after other officers and noncommissioned officers had been killed or wounded and led it forward through heavy fire to its objective.
