The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Okla M. Walls (ASN: 504105), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 101st Field Signal Battalion, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Marcheville, France, 26 September 1918. Preparatory to establishing telephone communication from the leading elements to the rear, Private Walls voluntarily reconnoitered an area swept by heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, locating forward positions in which wires could be strung.
