The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Sam Todor (ASN: 47979), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Cantigny, France, 28 May 1918. After ten others had been killed or wounded in an attempt to deliver a message, Private Todor carried an important message through heavy artillery and machine-gun fire and returned with a receipt showing the message had been delivered.
