The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Peter Strucel (ASN: 1783307), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montfaucon, France, 26 September 1918. During an attack and under heavy machine-gun fire Sergeant Strucel showed exceptional courage and devotion to duty by constantly walking up and down the line cheering and encouraging his men. In the performance of this task he was killed.
