The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Fred G. Soucy (ASN: 42853), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company E, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, south of Soissons, France, 18 July 1918. When his platoon was held up by a machine-gun Private Soucy, with two other privates who were killed before reaching the emplacement, charged the gun, killed the crew of five Germans, and captured their gun.
