The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant [then Corporal] Wactaw Solinski (ASN: 54813), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Soissons, France, 18 July 1918. Sergeant Solinski, although seriously wounded in the thigh by an aerial bomb, took command of his platoon after the death of his commander and gallantly led it forward until he fell unconscious.
