The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Nat Robbin Smith (ASN: 2258138), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Gesnes, France, 28 September 1918. Sergeant Smith successfully led his patrol, in the face of heavy machine-gun fire, being a point direct, in order to make better reconnaissance, and, although severely wounded, continued to lead his patrol.
