The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal George Nelson (ASN: 45882), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, north of Exermont, France, 10 October 1918. When his platoon was held up by machine-gun fire from the front Corporal Nelson, with one other, advanced in front of the line and captured the gun with its crew. Their action enabled his platoon to continue the advance.
