The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Edward Harold McNeil (ASN: 64248), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 103d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bouresches, France, 20 July 1918. Upon reaching his objective, Hill 190, in front of Bouresches, Private McNeil found he was the only man of his squad left. Going forward, he entered an enemy machine-gun position and at the point of his bayonet captured three machine guns and five prisoners.
