The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Alexis Moran McLain (ASN: 1317178), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Souplet, France, 10 October 1918. After one soldier had been killed and another wounded in the attempt, Private McLain carried a message under heavy fire to company headquarters, bringing up reinforcements, which saved his platoon.
