The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Loater Loyd McKinney (ASN: 1311144), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company F, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montbrehain, France, 8 October 1918. Accompanying two comrades, Private McKinney attacked with hand grenades an enemy machine-gun stronghold, containing at least 40 Germans and four machine guns, and forced the enemy to surrender.
