The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant James McGuire (ASN: 1750405), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 312th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Talma Farm, France, 23 October 1918. Without regard for his own danger, Sergeant McGuire went to the rescue of a wounded comrade to the aid station, crossing and repressing an area swept by intense artillery and machine-gun fire, and under the direct observation of the enemy.
