The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Allen R. Mann (ASN: 1212830), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Sanitary Detachment, 107th Infantry Regiment (Attached), 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. With utter disregard for his own personal safety, Private Mann repeatedly went out into no man’s land, in plain view of the enemy, and administered first aid to the wounded. While engaged in this work he was caught in a heavy enfilading fire from the enemy and was killed.
