The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Sidney Clifford Maguire (ASN: 1386609), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Chipilly Ridge, France, 9 August 1918. Although wounded early in the engagement, Sergeant Maguire showed great devotion to duty by continuing at his post as platoon leader for two days, relinquishing command only when forced to do so by the condition of his wound.
