By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Milton E. Long, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the Machine Gun Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 12 October 1918, on Cunel Heights, France, after having been wounded by an enemy machine gun bullet, Lieutenant Long moved his platoon forward, located the enemy machine guns and cleaned the woods of them, capturing three guns and their entire personnel, thus displaying extraordinary courage and determination in carrying out his mission.
