The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Clyde W. Linton (ASN: 152364), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery E, 42d Field Artillery, Coast Artillery Corps, near Suippes, France, 15 July 1918. Corporal Linton displayed remarkable courage and devotion to duty, a lineman in charge of exposed telephone lines between his battery commander’s station and the firing battery, during the German attack at Suippes. At great personal risk he repaired the lines as they were broken by shell fire. In performing this duty he was severely wounded.
