    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private David I. Kreitzer (ASN: 1246736), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 112th Infantry Regiment, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fismes, France, August 7 – 8, 1918. After being severely wounded in the right shoulder, Private Kreitzer refused immediate evacuation and continued to perform his duty as company runner. Upon several occasions, he exposed himself to heavy enemy fire in order to carry messages from company headquarters to his platoon. His gallant conduct aided materially in keeping up the morale and courage of his comrades.
