The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George Jennings Kite (ASN: 1288359), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 102d Machine-Gun Battalion, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Verdun, France, 24 October 1918. After several runners had been killed in the attempt, Private Kite volunteered and delivered an important message under a hail of fire.
