The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George King (ASN: 42508), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near the Argonne Forest, France, 9 October 1918. Private King was a member of a reconnoitering patrol which encountered heavy fire from hostile machine guns. Private King advanced alone and killed the gunners, enabling his patrol to complete its mission.
