    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Raymond R. Kennedy (ASN: 2158908), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Ribeauville, France, October 18 – 19, 1918. On the night of October 18 – 19, when all. Communication had been temporarily lost with the unit on the left of his regiment, Private Kennedy volunteered to attempt the establishment of liaison, fully aware of the danger necessarily incurred. While attempting to cross a heavily shelled area to reach the flank regiment, he received a wound which resulted in the loss of his leg.
