The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Austin J. Kelley (ASN: 62102), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vaux, France, 20 July 1918. Corporal Kelley and Privates Harold E. Rounds and John J. Grady penetrated the enemy’s lines in the face of machine-gun fire, captured a machine-gun and its crew, and returned with valuable information concerning the enemy’s positions.
