The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Mortimer Harvie Jordan, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 167th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Souain, France, 15 July 1918. Seeing a private of his company wounded by shell fire, Captain Jordan left his shelter and rushed to the aid of the wounded man. After administering first aid, he carried him through the terrific bombardment a distance of 150 yards to a place of safety.
