The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Albert G. Jefferson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Le Hamel, Belgium, 4 July 1918. After being severely wounded in the breast and shoulder from shell fire, First Lieutenant Jefferson continued with and commanded his platoon until its final objective was reached and its consolidation was completed.
