The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Harry Edward Imhof (ASN: 1159836), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 21st Machine-Gun Battalion, 7th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vieville, France, 1 November 1918. During a heavy barrage of high-explosive and gas shells Sergeant Imhof assisted an officer to give first aid to a wounded officer and two soldiers after the platoon had withdrawn from the position.
