By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private George R. Hutson (ASN: 1550465), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Hutson showed extraordinary heroism in battle on 28 July 1918, near Le Charmel, France, in remaining at his post and assisting to lay his piece and carry on fire although he had been wounded and had seen his Captain and 32 other members of the battery wounded by a bomb from an enemy airplane.
