The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Thomas Hunt (ASN: 246279), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 167th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Cote-de-Chatillon, France, 14 October 1918. Although painfully wounded in the chest, Corporal Hunt refused to be evacuated, and remained in command of his squad through two days of hard fighting thereafter. In so doing, Corporal Hunt set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty to the other members of the command.
