    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George D. Holzman (ASN: 2788165), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 3d Battalion, 362d Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Gesnes, France, 11 October 1918. Private Holzman, on duty at one of the posts of a double relay of runners between battalion and regimental headquarters, carried numerous messages through heavily shelled area. Three other soldiers were killed and five seriously wounded along his route, but with unfaltering devotion to duty Private Holzman continued at his work of relaying messages until he was relieved.
